Whitbeck forest clearance and flooding

The parish council has received a 'consultation' email from Tillhill ltd on their proposed clearance of the Whitbeck commercial forest in Garsdale. This is the forest that is on the left (south) of the A684 about a kilometre east of the first cattle grid.

Published: 2 November 2024

The email from Tillhill sets out their plans for their proposed clearance of the commercial forest at Whitbeck. they have, seemingly, complied with all statutory and forestry regulations and requirements in their management plan. however as we all know their plan may not be exactly how the work is carried out.

Also and coincidently I am in conversation with our councillor, Ian Michel, re the problem of flooding or cascading water that exits from the Whitbeck forest track onto the A684. An initial inspection and discussion with locals with knowledge of this problem seems to indicate that the forest track is ‘cambered’ in the wrong direction and therefore not ‘shedding’ its run off rain water into the culvert which runs under the A684 on the east side of their track. Their may also be additional flooding risks caused by this culvert being partially blocked. I will put this on the HIAMs reporting system for W&F to have a look at. In the meantime please email me with any comments and/or information at cllr.jack.butterworth@garsdaleparishcouncil.gov.uk.

Also please see the attached Tillhill documents for detailed information on their plans.
