A temporary road closure has been put in place to allow Westmorland and Furness to carry out highway works which are expected to commence 22nd June 2026 and anticipated to take 18 weeks to complete.
Please see below details of the restrictions and any alternative routes which may be in place.

Location: Phase 1: From its junction with Cock Brow, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 305m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of A684, B6259, A685 and the A683.
Duration: From 22nd June 2026 for approx. 4 weeks.
N.B. To protect the local highway network and prevent inconsiderate rat running during the Phase 1 works, motor vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along the U5514, from its junction with the A684, for its entire length for the duration of the works. Access to properties, land and premises within the restricted area will be maintained where safe and practicable.
Phase 2: From a point approx. 955m west of its junction with the U5508, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 325m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A684, B6259, A685 and the A683.
Duration: From 27th July 2026 for approx. 3 weeks.
Phase 3: From a point approx. 2km south east of its junction with the U5478, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 425m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A684, B6259, A685 and the A683.
Duration: From 1st September 2026 for approx. 5 weeks.
Phase 4: From its junction with the U5503, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 415m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A684, B6259, A685 and the A683.
Duration: From 1st October 2026 for approx. 3 weeks.
N.B. To protect the local highway network and prevent inconsiderate rat running during the Phase 4 works, motor vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along the U5003 and U5489 from their junctions with the A684, for their entire length and for the duration of the works. Access to properties, land and premises within the restricted area will be maintained where safe and practicable.
It has been identified that it will not be safe to maintain access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists throughout the restriction.
N.B This restriction or Passage for Emergency Vehicles will not be maintained for the duration of this restriction.
