Most residents in Garsdale will be aware of a long standing, and sometimes heated, discussion re the problem of speeding traffic along the A684 in the Garsdale valley.
There have been many traffic surveys along our road and all have shown a statistically minor incidence of speeding vehicles, although this in no way minimises the distress caused to some residents by speeding and noisy traffic. The results of these surveys and representations from the Parish Council and local residents have not been enough to convince statutory bodies, such as W&F highways department or the police to take regulatory or law enforcement action on this issue.
Consequently the Parish council are looking at measures that they can take, that are within their authority, to address the concerns of local residents. as a first step in what will be a staged approach to addressing the issue of speeding traffic the council will discuss, and decide on, the installation of village signs incorporating traffic calming messages and a further series of signs that may encourage drivers to be mindful of speed limits, road conditions and the general local environment.
Councillor Chris Simmonds has submitted a report on this issue which will provide the bases for the councils discussions.
