Website code of practice

The, draft, code of practice outlined below is for the guidance of all and any Garsdale resident who wishes to contribute to the website. The code also provides guidance for the Parish Council website admin for use when accepting content for publication.

Website Code of Practice 2024

This code of practice is for the guidance of councillors and officials of Garsdale Parish Council and follows, closely, the guidance set out in ‘The Clerks Manual’ (2023) published by The Society of Local Council Clerks.

Website Mission:

It is a priority of Garsdale Parish Council to communicate openly and positively with the residents of Garsdale. Our website shall be used as an information resource for all in Garsdale and shall be maintained to the highest standards through the timely collation and editing of relevant material and be kept free from prejudice and bias.

Code of practice;

Before publishing any public material the council will have regard (under ss 4A and 4B of the 1986 Act) to the requirements of the recommended practice on Local Authority Publicity. Among other things it requires publicity by local authorities in England to be;

Cost effective

Objective

Even-handed

Appropriate

Respectful of equality & diversity

Garsdale Parish Council, or its nominees, will ensure that all published information follows the criteria detailed above.

Any news stories, bulletins or other information submitted for publication on Garsdale Parish Council website or in any other formats will be subject to assessment and possible editing by Garsdale parish council.
